About Tamborine Mountain
Tamborine Mountain is part of the northern rim of the great caldera of which Mt Warning is the dominant feature. Formed millions of years ago, the eons of weathering has produced a plateau with rich volcanic soils and underground aquifers of indeterminate magnitude. The mountain has a unique climate and peculiar ecosystems, which support much diversity of fauna and flora.
The lush green rural countryside of Mount Tamborine is dotted with a variety of crops such as Avocado and Kiwi Fruit Orchards, Rhubarb and its own Coffee Plantation.
Home to Tamborine National Park, the park is made up of 13 sections of land on the Tamborine plateau and surrounding foothills. The park protects remnants of Tamborine Mountain's plant communities and includes areas of rainforest with distinctive piccabeen palm groves, wet eucalypt forest dominated by tall flooded gums, open forest with bracken fern understorey and woodland.
Surrounded by urban and rural development, these plant communities provide essential wildlife habitat. Tamborine Mountain escarpment contains 85 percent of all fauna species and 65 percent of all flora species in the Gold Coast City area.

Things to do
Rainforest Walking Tracks in Tamborine Mountain National Park - Walking tracks are provided in six sections of Tamborine National Park (view or download a PDF document showing a printable Map of all Walking Tracks). Most walking tracks are short and can be walked within a few hours. The walks are relatively easy although some tracks have short, steep grades. At usual walking pace, 3km takes about an hour.
If you are walking with young children, or if you are birdwatching or taking photographs, allow extra time. The park is home to many rainforest animals including the rare Albert's lyrebird and one of the world's largest skinks, the land mullet. The Richmond birdwing butterfly and noisy pitta migrate seasonally to the park from nearby higher altitude rainforests. Basalt columns, cliffs, rocky outcrops and waterfalls are a lasting legacy of volcanic eruptions 23 million years ago. Tamborine is the most northerly remnant of the flows from a volcano centred on Mt Warning.

Wineries and Wine Tasting - Tamborine Mountain is well known for its local wines and there are 3 wineries within just 1km's walking distance from Witches Falls Cottages Private Accommodation and others all within a short driving distance from our Cottages.
If you like wine and would like to taste some of the finest, then spend some time visiting the local wineries and sampling their vintage so that you can select those pleasing to your palate and take some home with you.
Dining - Tamborine Mountain is home to an amazing variety of restaurants, cafes, pubs and all sort of eateries. Delicious food is freshly prepared everyday, to suit every palate, by day and night. Whether you fancy Polish, French, Irish, Thai, or traditional Australian cuisine you will not be disappointed.
Why not indulge yourself and partake in some refreshment? Whether, breakfast, lunch or dinner or just a coffee you will find many fine establishments on Mount Tamborine, to satisfy your every need and help fuel you for all the other activities that you will want to experience.

Botanical Gardens - Mount Tamborine is a gardeners' paradise! The rich, red volcanic soil and sub-tropical climate make it the perfect place to grow almost anything. Established in 1983 and covering 11 hectares, the Gardens consist of exotic species and the natural rainforest of Tamborine Mountain. Over 25 years, Volunteers have developed this property into the highly-photographic boutique Gardens that they are today.
Being 500 metres above sea level, Tamborine Mountain has a climate that is cooler and less humid than the lower coastal areas. This allows plants to be grown from cool climate and temperate zones. Flowering cherries, Rhododendron species, Magnolias, Camellias and Maples are a few of the genera on display.
Massages & Pampering - Enjoy the benefits of a Pampering / Accommodation Package from Witches Falls Cottages. Pick one of the amazing massage styles that we offer and have a massage therapist come to you in the privacy of your own Cottage. Relax, unwind, rejuvenate with a special massage. No need to move far afterwards, maybe to your large double spa with a glass of local wine or a nipper of Schnapps, or lounge by the fireplace whilst sampling the local chocolate or adult fudge.

Gallery Walk - Mt Tamborine's own local shopping precinct, the premier Art & Craft centre of South-East Queensland. This cluster of galleries and craft shops provides a wealth of diverse art and craft including paintings, sculpture, ceramics, porcelain, glass, jewellery, woodwork, fabrics and much more. From fine art to the frivolous, you will find something to suit all tastes and budgets in this fascinating shopping precinct.
As you explore Gallery Walk enjoy coffee, light refreshments, luscious chocolate and fudge or a sumptuous lunch at one of the fine restaurants and cafes. Allow plenty of time for your visit because there is so much to see and do on Gallery Walk.
